The Prince of Wales’ postbag at Yo.k House was one of the biggest on record ti day. As a result of the broadcast appeal on behalf of the miners Id tin s came from all classes. Many describe bow immediately the Prince had s;token the hat was hand'd round and a modest ten shillings and upwards sent to Mansion House, where over n thousand contributions we e received by the first post. The Prinee spent a good deal of Christmas D iv composing the appeal, which was i nlv finished just before lie went to Ihe microphone. The fund is now about £350,000, apart from the Government's contributions.
