SUDDEN DEATH.

OF MR W. H. HOBIN. It is with feelings of the deepest regret that we have to record the death of Mr W. 11. Hobin, a very old resident of the district. The deceased gentleman underwent a serious operation some months ago and made a good recovery. On Sunday last he appeared to be in the best of health, but during the night he was attacked with severe pains, and his medical attendant was summoned. On Monday Mr Hobin was removed to the district hospital at Waipukurau, and on Tuesday underwent another operation, from which he failed to rally, and death took place at an early hour yesterday morning. The deceased gentleman, who was 55 years of age, was for about fourteen years in the employ of the Waipawa County Council, first as overseer, and for nine years as engineer. He resigned his position to enter farming pursuits, and lattedy he had lived quietly at Lindsay. A man of sterling integrity, of high principles, one who would not knowingly perform a mean act to anyone, he was greatly esteemed by all who were fortunate enough to have his friendship, and his death, with such tragic suddenness, will be deeply deplored. He was a Freemason of long standing, and was a Past Grand Lodge officer. He was also a member of the Loyal Abbotsford Lodge of Oddfellows. The late Mr Hobin was also keenly interested in music. He was for many years a member of the Municipal Band, and latterly had devoted himself to orchestral work. He leaves a widow and family of six—Mis Thompson, Miss Linda Hobin, and Miss Lilian Hobin; and three sons, John, Vernon and Everton. The sincere sympathy of the community will go out to the bereaved family in the irreparable loss which they have sustained.

In connection with the funeral, which will leave deceased’s late residence at Lindsay at 2 p.m. to-morrow, a Lodge of Sorrow will be held at the Masonic Hall at 1.30.
