DON’T WANT PEACE.

DR. MICHAELIS AND THE PAPAL NOTE. Argus Service. (Received This Day, 2 p.m.) AMSTERDAM, August 22. Dr. Michaelis, German Chancellor, addressing the Reichstag Main Committee, said: —“We have no desire for peace with the enemy as it exists. The enemy’s war aims have been proved to desire to annihilate us. Therefore one cannot think of peace. This should be stated in view of the Pope’s Note. There has not yet been time for the Allies to deliberate on the Note, Wit there is not any doubt of the Pope’s honesty. Therefore I greet the Note sympathetically.” ALLIES’ REPLY TO THE POPE. (Received This Day, 2 p.m.) ROME, August 22. It is believed that England will send n joint reply to the Papal Note after conferring with the Allies.
