AIRSHIP RAIDS.
ON THE YORKSHIRE COAST. SLIGHT DAMAGE.
Australian & N.Z. Cable Association Reuter Message. (Received This Day, Noon). LONDON, August 22. The Press Bureau reports:— Enemy airships appeared on the Yorkshire coast laßt night. One attacked at the mouth of the Humber, dropped bombs, and went seaward when the anti-aircraft guns opened fire. Slight damage was done. One man was injured. FOILED. - AN AEROPLANE RAID. HEAVILY ENGAGED AND TURNED BACK. TWO ENEMY MACHINES. BROUGHT DOWN. Australian & N.Z. Cable Association. (Received This Day, 2 p.m.) LONDON, August 22. The Press Bureau reports:— Ten enemy aeroplanes approached Kent near Ramsgate at ten this morning. The Flying Corps and naval air service met and heavily engaged the raiders, preventing their penetration inland. A small party of raiders flew to Margate but turned homeward. The remainder skirted the 1 coast southward to Dover. Bombs were dropped at Dover and Margate. Three persons were killed and two injured. Slight damage was done. Our anti-aircraft gunfire downed two of the raiders.
