WAIPUKURAU.

The Bishop of Waiapu will make his annual visit to Waipukurau at the end of this week, and will officiate at St. Mary’s Church on Sunday. On Monday evening the Bishop will be entertained at a social gathering by the congregation and friends.
One or two businesses here will change hands in the course of the next week or two. Additional donations received towards the Christmas Gift Parcels for the men at the front are:—Miss Hooper 10s, Mrs J. N. Mackie 10s, Mrs L. H. Wilson 10s, Mr T. E. Whelch £1 10s. These bring the total amount to date to £193 10s. Further contributions will be thankfully received by the secretary, Mr F. Eyre. At a meeting of the St. Andrew’s Flower Show committee, held on Wedhesday evening, it was decided to hold the annual show in the first week of December. A revival in the attendance was very noticeable at the farewell social tendered on Wednesday evening by the Patriotic Entertainment Committee to the men leaving for the 33rd Reinforcement camp. The hall floor was in good order for dancing and the large crowd present spent a good time. The music was supplied in the first part by Mr R. Young (cornet), Mrs Harris (piano), Mr A. King (violin), and in the second part by Misses Enting, Barnes and Sharpin (piano), and Messrs Windle and Barnes (violin). During the evening songs were contributed by Miss Gray, Mrs G. Bryce, and Messrs Menzies and Hood. Speeches were delivered by the Mayor (Mr J. Winlove) and DeputyMayor (Mr W. A. Chambers), the kits being presented by Mrs Chambers.
