(Own Correspondent). In connection with the monster collection to be taken up on the 4th August in aid of the Y.M.C.A. funds, a meeting of the lady volunteer collectors was held in the Town Hall on Saturday afternoon, the chairman of the Patriotic League presiding. A. V. Collins and Miss Langridge will canvass the Argyll district and the Te Aute road, Mrs Gordon Williams the Pukehou district and Te Aute, Miss Mundell and Miss Steven the town, Mrs A. G. Clark the east and north districts, and Mrs Vaughan and Mrs Munro will make special collections. On Saturday afternoon the Town Board and Patangata County Council will meet the townspeople in the Town Hall at 2 p.m. to pass the war resolution.
On Tuesday evening at 8 o’clock, after the Red Cross annual meeting, a social will be held in the hall, when a musical programme arranged by Miss A. Langridge will be given and dancing and cards indulged in. Supper will be dispensed, for which an extra charge will be made, and there will be sweet, cigarette and fancy pocket stalls in aid of the above.
Mrs A. G. Clark will have a gift afternoon at her residence on Tuesday, and there will be a cigarette afternoon on Thurfsday in Mrs Cambridge’s rooms, arranged by Mrs A. V. Collins.
The local storekeepers have arranged to close early so as to assist the collection.
