OTANE
(Own Correspondent). On Wednesday evening, in the Town Hall, Mrs De Castro delivered a lecture on Y.M.C.A. work at the front, to a large and high appreciative audience. The lady, who has a thorough grasp of her subject and a very charming delivery, was listened to with the greatest interest, the audience fully appreciating the good work that she has done. As a result of this lecture eight ladies offered their services to canvass the district on the 4th of August to collect funds to forward the good work, and a collection was taken up in the hall which netted £5 2s Id. The lecture was given under the auspices of the Patriotic League, the chairman, Mr J. J. Langridge, occupying the chair. The lecture was preceded by a musical programme, the following ladies contributing : —Songs, Mesdames Cleary, McKay and Vaughan, and Miss Langridge; pianoforte solo, Miss Mundell. The chairman notified that on Saturday, 4th August, the Premier had instructed him to notify all townsmen to meet in the Town Hall, when the following resolution would be submitted:—“That, on this the third anniversary of the declaration of a righteous war, this meeting of the citizens of Otane records its inflexible determination to continue to a victorious end the struggle in maintenance of those ideals of Liberty and Justice which are the common and sacred cause of the Allies.”
