THE FAMOUS BILLY SUNDAY.

A LANGUAGE OF HIS OWN. Our Allies across the ocean have their charming idiosyncrasies. Ono of thee© is the famous preacher, Billy Sunday. Billy has a language of his own, as the following extracts from one of his sermons in New York, neported in the New Tork “Herald,” addressed to 20,000 people, indicates “ I notico that you are the same old bunch,” lie said, turning to his audience with an expansive grin _ “ the same old warm and enthusiastic bunch that you used to be when you sat in tlie bleachers and applauded the good play of either side in tho days when 1 used to play ball at the Polo Ground. No matter what side a man plays on, ii lie makes a good p!ay Ji© gets the glad hand instead of tho marble heart from you people here in New York. “Joshua., fighting a battle for God, said that the sun would set, and it would grow dark before ho would be able to finish this battle. “ Just make the sun stand still a little while and prolong this day till I whip that bunch to a frazzle, and it will send your name ringing down through, the ages,’ ho said to God : and God reached up and grabbed tlie sun and said, ‘Stay there; don’t move until thy servant Joshua gives you the “highball.” “ Samson with the Hoiy Spirit upon him could take the jawbone of an ass and lay dead one thousand Philistines. Samson without the Holy Spirit was as weak a-s a new-born babe, and they poked his eyes out and cut off his locks, . and so with the church and hoi* raem- { bers. “ Whereever the Apostle Paul went lie had cither a revival or a riot. He had been on the firing line of Jesus Christ for years, and never once dipped his colors. “HoAisited Corinth, and when he Flopped into the inn he noticed a gang of mien talking in the corner. He went . to tho hotel-keeper and .said : “ ‘Who is that bunch over there?” ’ “ Why they’re the Church people here in Corinth,’ answered the proprietor. “Not on your life,’ answered St. Paul ‘not that gang.’ “Then St. Paul wont over into the corner and said. ‘Have vc received the Holy Ghost?’ “Never heard of it,’ said one of the “ Paul said we are living in a now liiispenisation of grace, and salvation is offered free to al(l who will accept.” Leaping to the ton of the lectern, and swinging the folds of a large American flag out over his audience. Billy Sunday ’ ended the evening service at the tabernacle by leading a patriotic demonstration as enthusiastic as it was thrilling. Coupling bis campaign against sin with the war with Germany in Iris peroration Mr. Sunday denounced Prussian militarism, which he declared had enslaved tho German people. “Wer’o fighting now for the liberty of tho world,” he cried, as he leaped to the chair. “It never has been traaW in the dust.” he shouted, as he grabbed the flag by its s< >ff and jumped to the table, “Never! Never!”
