DISABLED STEAMER.

MAKES PORT SAFELY. (Per Press Association). AUCKLAND, This day. The disabled Union. Co.’s steamer arrived at midnight. The accident occurred in heavy weather, which is supposed to have been a contributing factor to the fracture of the bearings. It was a very peculiar and unusual accident, the source of which has not been definitely settled, but there is no suspicion of improper interference with the machinery. The engineer made temporary repairs to the vessel which enabled her to steam back to port at five knots. The repairs will be made here by the Union Co.’s shore staff.
