WEST FRONT .

ATTACKS ON THE FRENCH LINE. VIGOROUSLY REPULSED. (High Commissioner’s Message). LONDON, July 25. French official: This morning we counter-attacked vigorously the Germans occupying our first line of elements on the Plateaux of Casemates and California, with brilliant results. Despite an obstinate defence we retook all the lost ground on the Plateau California except a small work, which was completely destroyed.

On the Plateau Casemates we expelled the enemy advancing on our line from several positions. Enemy counter-attacks failed.

Later: Yesterday, after a violent artillery preparation, the Germans attacked the positions we captured on the California Plateau. They were completely repulsed, our previous day’s gains being maintained and consolidated.
