MILITARY WEDDING.
VAUGHAN—McKAY. Since the outbreak of war military weddings have become quite popular and it is unusual nowadays to see any such function without a sprinkling of khaki either amongst the weddn. party or the guests. St. Petcr’j Church, Otane, was yesterday n, scene of a military wedding of niott than ordinary interest, from the f att that the bride, Miss McKay, daughter of Mr Gilbert McKay, is most popular in the district and has taken a and active interest in matters patrj. otic, whilst the bridegroom, Lieuten. ant Vaughan, leaves shortly to active service. T|„ bride was attended by two little trait, bearers, Masters Gordon McKay and Gilbert Pearson, becomingly attired in khaki. Her bridesmaids wert' Misses Esther Pearson and Marv If. liae. Lieutenant Allison attended tin bridegroom as best man, and Corporal Petersen acted as groomsman. Tl* bride presented a dainty picture, a|. tired in white taffeta silk, with train and wearing a mop cap. The carried a beautiful shower bouquet and won the customary veil and orange blot sum wreath. Miss Pearson’s was of vieux rose ninon, and site wore a black picture hat. She carried i bouquet of carnations and autunn leaves, with rose streamers. Miss Mt. Rae was attired in pale blue silk, m j wore a black picture hat. Her bonquet was of dark red ehrysanthe. mums, with cerise streamers. jj B McKay, mother of the bride, was tot turned in grey crepe de chine, win touches of vieux rose. The marring) ceremony was performed by the Rev, J. Douglas Smith. On retiring from the church Li® tenant and Mrs Vaughan again re ceived the salute of their guard ol honor, and then drove to (1* Town Hall, where they received tit congratulations and hearty god wishes of a large circle of friends, the building being uncomfortablj crowded. Tin? toast of “The Hridt and Bridegroom” was proposed it felicitous terms by the Rev. Mr Smitl and suitably acknowledged by Lien tenant Vaughan. Surgeon Ojiptaii Deck proposed the health of ti bridesmaids, and Mr Langridge till of Mr and Mrs G. McKay. Evidence of the warm esteem a which the bride and bridegroom in held was furnished by the very latgi number of wedding presents received. Mr McKay’s gift took the form oil substantial cheque. After the reception in (lie hall, Lieutenant and Mrs Vaughan departed on their honeymoon, which is to I* spent in Wanganui.
