MARCH ON BAGDAD.

TURKS ALARMED. FEVERISH PREPARATIONS FOR DEFENCE. (Received This Day, 0 a.ra.) ATHENS, May 15. The Turks are alarmed at the Russian advance, and great efforts are being made to stem it before Erzingjan. Many lines of trenches have been cut, but the Turks chiefly rely on the 4.7in. and Tin. guns. The transit of artillery is difficult, but thousands of Christians have been forced to repair the Erzingjan road and to build parallel roads. Many German officers are present, with a stiffening of German troops. Defensive works at Diarbckir are being feverishly pushed on, as the capture of the headwaters of the Tigris will cut off Bagdad’s supplies.
