FOOTBALL.

HIGH SCHOOL v. TOWN JUNIORS.

A football match was played yesterday afternoon on the Waipawa Recreation Reserve between the above teams. Town won the toss and School kicked off. Shortly after the commencement Hutana scored for School, after a pretty piece of passing amongst the backs. Even play resulted until E. Bibby scored for Town. Shortly after Dighton scored and converted for School. The whistle then sounded for half-time.

Even play resulted until near the end of the second spell. School then, being the better trained team, took control of matters. Bibby scored a pretty try, which was converted by Hutana. Shortly afterwards Sweeney scored, blit Hutana failed with the kick. Hutana scored two more unconverted tries, and the game ended — School 17, Town 8. Mr George Colwill gave every satisfaction as referee. The School hacks showed good combination, hut their forwards did not play a good game, owing to lack of condition. With more practice this team should not have any difficulty in winning the Coleman trophy.

Two members of the school staff played with the boys, and such an example should give an impetus to this branch of athletics.
