ENEMY DESPERATE.

VERDUN FAILURE. MORE ATTACKS IN DENSE FORMATION. TERRIBLE SACRIFICES. (Received This Day, 9 a.m.) PARIS, May 10. Semi-official.—The German offensive west of the Meuse is still Hill 304. Three German attacks on Monday night in dense formation attempted a frontal and enveloping assault, but all completely failed, with heavy losses. Renewed attempts on Tuesday met the same fate. It is believed the Germans employed three fresh divisions, and all were decimated. Thus after five days’ furious assault, costing enormous sacrifice, a recrudescence of the Verdun offensive of unprecedented violence leaves the enemy exactly where he started.
