Obituary.

ChMIM Mitchell Whittington.

The sad news was received in Waipawa this afternoon of the death in St. Helen's Hospital, Brisbane, of Mr Charles M Whittington, proprietor of the Mail Decease \ who bad been in indifferent health for some considerable time, went to Queensland some weeks ago, on the advice of his medioal adviser, in th# hopes that the ohange would prove bene fioial. Communications received from dedeassd tended to show, apparently, that he was benefiting by the ohange, and the sad news received to day came as a shook to his many friends, whose sympathy will be extended to hia wife, son and daughter who are left to mourn the loss of a good husband and kind father.

Dsoeesed was born in Ballarat, Victoria, in 1854, and oame to New Zeeland, with bis parents, who settled in Dunedin, where the deceased spent many years. From Dnnedin be oame to Napier, where he was married. On leaving Napier he purchased the interests of tbe Waipawa Mail Company in this journal and assumed oontrol, which position he has held for 22 years. Mr Whittington, who took a keen many years chairman of the Waipawa School Committee, and at the time of his death held the position of chairman of tbe Hawke’s Bay Education Board, interest in educational matters, was for The interment will take place at Brisbane. The Grand Secretary of tha Oddfellows’ Lodge, MU, has been asked to represent the Abbotsford Lodge (of which deceased was a member; at tbe funeral.
