Waipawa Bowling Club.

Annual Report.

The following is the report of the Waipawa Bowling Club for the season 1910-11:—In presenting the eighth annual report and balance-sheet, we have to congratulate the club on a successful season. The membership shows a slight increase, twenty-three players taking a keen and active interest in the game throughout the year. The caretaker (Mr L. Pratley) kept the green in a satisfactory condition. The receipts are slightly in excess of the expenditure. Several old accounts were paid in addition to the ordinary expenses. The ground committee (Mr John Ferguson) has top-dressed the green and intends, with the assistance of Mr Pratley, keeping it in order during the oilseason. Several visitors from different parts of the Dominion were entertained during the year, among them being Mr J. Scott, the holder of the South Island Championship, and Mr J. Cameron, a member of the rink whioh was runner up to Scott. On Boxing Day two rinks from our club visited Hastings and lost by a small margin of points. On New Year's Day our representatives journed to Napier and returned victorious. Early in the season a rink visited Greenmeadows and suffered defeat after a keenly contested game. In all our games with Waipukurau we were the winners. The Napier bowlers visited us on Good Friday and won on the aggregate by a few points. The club competitions resulted as follows: Handicap Singles: The principal scores in the Singles’ Competition, for whioh Mr F. C. Lock, of Hallenstein Bros., donated a prize is as follows :—James defeated Nicholson, Naßb, Ferguson, Dillon, Watson, Ecoleton, Moir, Webley, Ratbbone, and Milburn, and was defeated by Brewer; Milburn beat Norton, Nicholson, Nash, Craig, Ferguson, O’Brien, Eccleton, Brewer, and Webley, and lost to James and Whittington, jnr.; Whittington, jnr., beat Jull, Whit, tington, Webley, Nicholson, O’Brien, Brewer, Milburn, Wilson, and Thompson, and was defeated by Dick, Dillon, Ferguson, and Eccleton. Summary : James played 11, won 10, lost 1; Milburn played 11, won 9, lost 2 ; Whittington, jnr., played 13, won 9, lost 4; O’Brien played 12, won 7, lost 5 ; Eccleton played 10, won 5, lost 5 ; Thompson played 8, won 4, lost 4.

For the rink competition, to whioh event Mr Webley volunteered to give a trophy, several rinks had tied and being unable to play off, the final result was not settled and the event will probably be played off next season.

The same may be said about the Pairs Match, which unfortunately was interfered with by other matches and was not played out. Messrs Whittington, senr. and jnr., Brewer, and Nicholson still hold possession of the Murray Featherß, and Messrs Whittington, James, Nicholson and Dick have successfully defended the club’s right to retain the holdership of the Cameron Pennant. For the Drawing Competition for Mr H. Leon Wilson’s prize there was very keen competition, but notwithstanding repeated attacks, the honour of making the highest score remains with the donor. The following are the best scores :—Wilson 57 points, Brower, Thompson and Whittington, jnr., 53 points each. The thanks of the club are due to Miss Cameron, of Patea, who very generously worked and presented a pennant for competition between Wai-

pukurau and Waipawa clubs. To Mr Jull for his usual generosity, to Mrs Jull, Mrs E. H. Brewer, Mrs H. M. Bathbone, Misses Eccleton and Ferguson, and other ladies who so kindly assisted, the thanks of the club are also due.
