Your Committee have pleasure in presenting the twenty-sixth Annual Report and accounts of the Society, a perusal of which will, it is hoped, prove satisfactory reading to shareholders. For a considerable portion of the past year applications for loans were considerably under the average, although the actual advances made during the year were just one-fourth greater than the preceding year, the total loans now existing being the highest on record. It is quite obvious that this Society, in company with other lending institutions, will be affected by the operations of the State lending departments, chiefly through the longer periods for which loans are made. Your Committee propose laying before you proposals for extending the lending periods of our loans in cases where such extensions are desirable and also for giving different tables of interest rates to meet ctianging conditions, our present tables being too inelastic. The profit additions to shares is slightly under that of last year, but as will be seen by the accompanying table the result is still very satisfactory.
