NAPIER NEWS.

[Owu Correspondent,] Namku, Yssterd.y Tho funeral of the late Mr G, I Fannin took plaoa this afternoon and was very largely attended by oititso, and Battlers ot the district, inoludin. representatives of the looal bodies. Th« service at the graveside was most im. presaively oonduoted by Oanon Mayos. The attempted burglary at Mr R, Wjl. Hams’ is still an unsolved mystery. The polios have had a number of shady characters under observation during the past few days but their itquiries here not led to tho arrest of anyone in conneotion with the affair. Meantims any. one who happens to have hie arm io , sling is the subjeot of rude remarks from his friends

Following on the remarks of Mr Hill to a reporter ooooerning faulty classing of wool, a considerable amount of interest has been manifested in this subject. The local wool-brokers are unanimous in the opinion that every year (he farmers lose a big sum by reason ol oarelessness in this respect. The can for the small farmer was very oonvinoingly put by the head of one firm, who said it was impossible for the small farmer to class his wool as the laris stationholder did. If a small men with about 10 bales or so attempted to make too many classes he did not gat e good price for anything. Where a man bed a very large fluok, however, it paid him well to skirt his wool properly. The American buyers wanted clean wool tnd did not want it mixed with looks, pieoes, bellies and that tort of stuff. The question of faulty olsseiDg did not to any extent effect the clips from the large Hawke’s Bay stations. Mr A. D. Harter, the manager of the New Zeeland Loan aud Mercantile Agency Co., mad, an interesting point of the good tbit might be accomplished by the Napier Technical Sohool in the matter of woolclassing. Mr Baxter considered that the present movement to impart egri. oultural instruction in oonnection with the Technical School wae an exceedingly good idea and ha hoped that farmer, 1 eons would be able to avail themailvM of it.
