iad from the Gisborne Farmers’ Uniuu,
urging that the Government bo uskod to erect a rubbit-proof fence to stop the spread of rabbits. It was denied that the southern portion of the Wairoa district was infested, and it was alleged that the reports from tho Inspectors showed that rabbits were 25 miles further back than twelve months ago, ahd there was no necessity for the fence. Iho allegations at a roesnt meeting at Gisborne wore ridiculed. An owner of a property in tho district said he had put the matter in the hands of his solicitors with a view to taking legal proceedings against an official of the Farmers Union. A motion was carried to send a reply I hat no rabbits wero north of the Mohaka river. In view of the medical testimony at the post mortem , it was necessary to show this. The Judge declared that tho system of adopting infants in response to an advertisement offering a small prom ; um, should be made absolutely illegal, because under such circumstunooß it was to the interest of persons taking a child that- the sooner it died the bettor. Wanganui, This day Webb left to-day for Wellington, where ho embarks to merrow, in tho Maheno, for Sydney, to row Charlie Towns for the sculling Championsh'p of the World, on August 3rd Webb had a most enthusiastic sond-off, a large crowd gathering at tho station. The Arbitration Court concluded this morning, when tho fiaxraillers’ dispute whs continued from Palmerston. It heard evidence, being iu the nature of objections by tho employers to the recommondalions of the Conciliation Board. Tho Court sita at Napier on Monday, aud later on at Masterton. A four-yoar-old child, a daughter of Mr Bydder, died in tho hospital to day, as tho result of injuries received by falling in a (ire. It is probablo that the demands of tho Wellington Domestic Servants’ Union will bo cent direct to tho Arbitration Court. Tho Union intends to ask tho Court to exorcise tho power of attaching employers by means of advertisements published iu tho daily papers.
