Napier, Yesterday.

The football champiorship was advauoed a step on Saturday, the two town contests —Te Aute v. City and Scinde v. Ahuriri—providing very entertaining displays from the spectator’s point cf view. In the To Aute-City game the latter held the lead till well on in the game, when the college boys, by a supreme effort got in front aud won their first match of the season by 8 points to 7. The Scinde-Ahuriri match was a great struggle, and although the former team showed the best all round form, they were unable to assert themselve as they did against the Rovers the previous Saturday, the game ending in a draw, 3 points each. At Hastings Rovora had an easy win over Havelock by 15 points to nil. After Saturday’s games the positions of the various clubs are as follows 1 B *> * I sl E£& B S
