LATE WIRES.
[Per Press Association.] Wellington, This day. Owing to the heavy rain yesterday a number of veesels in port were unable to unload. To-day the wharves presented a very busy appearance, as many as 27 vessels being berthed, including four ocean liners. A middle aged man, Henry Stunnell, attempted to commit suicide by taking chlorodine on Sunday. Accused admitted the offence at tho Police Court, to-day, and was remanded till next week. At a meeting of billiard-room proprietors, held to-day, it was decided to form on association for controlling the management of billia'd-rooms, and of applying for an extended license to 11 o’clock. It was stated that a scheme was afoot for forming a Billiard Aasooiation for New Zealand. MrJußtioe Button to-day granted a decree nisi in the divorce case of William Edward James v. Ada James. Costs wore given against co-respondent (Whyman). Timaru, This day. Ten of the Pareora slaughtermen resumed work this morning without making further objection. There are now 19 butchers at work, ten killing freezers, aud nine potters. Those who decliue to work, have been given notice that they will have to leave the company’s boiling house at the works, to make room for men who will work.
