Charitable Aid Conference.
(PER PBEBB ASSOCIATION) Wellington, This day The oommittee appointed by the Charitable Aid Oonferenoe on outdoor relief reported that it shonld be wholly io the handa of Charitable Aid Boards elected by the looal contributor!, local bodice’ representatives, or ratepayers; that farms and industrial institutions shonld be established near the large cities for able bodied persons of both sexes, and that Government be asked to assist ; that a differential mode of applying relief should exist between the large centres and smaller towns; deserted women and children should be housed By the Boards and the Boards should supply rations direct instead of through contractors. Consideration ef the rjport was postponed. Mr Booth moved that the distribution of charitable aid should rest with those who providod the money; that each County Council should be the Board and large boroughs shonld form their own Boards. This was lost. The following motion was oarried That Boards be elected for three years ; that the Act bo amended to prevent persona leaving a town district to enter another hospital and beooraing a charge on the district they had left; that the Government be asked to amend tho Act impoaing duties on charitable legacies.
