THE STOCK MARKET.
Williams and Kettle, Limited, held their usual sale at the Empire yards on Tuesday, and notwithstanding the in clement woather thoro was a large attendance from Palmerston, West Coast Pahiatua, Tahorite, and indeed all the surrounding districts. A fall yarding of cattle came forward, the quality of which was the subject of admiration. The bidding was animated to a certain prioe, but not quite to the owners’ expectations The auctioneer was, however, able to quit all the loading liues immediately after the sale at prioeß somewhat in favor of buyers
compared with last sale’s rates. A number of buyers were disappointed at tha non arrival of one consignment of unbroken draught horses, whioh could not reach on account of the swollen rivers. Those from the West Coast thst did , arrive were well competed for, and brought fall values. The sheep sdvertised did not come forward, but were placed private’y. The following prices were realised : —Three and four year old store bollocks £4 17s 6d, a poorer grade of similar ags £4 10» ; 2J to 3 yesr steers £3 12a fid, 18 mouth steers £2 10s, oows to ca've £3 ss. The dairy stock was paesed unsold. Draught horeea £l7 to £24, hoggets 8s 61.
