English- Church were that their ministers be recognised as duly ordained, and that the vow to celibacy be waived-. Those, however, ceuld uot be accepted by the Catholics, and until the members of the English Church were prepared to abandon those conditions, the union conld not take place. -John McGninpess, an employe -.of Mr W. B. Blythe, was this morning charged before Mr Turnbull, 8.M., with the theft of certain articles of clothing of the value of £4 108. At the meeting of the Charitable Aid Board to-day the honorarium of Mr S. Johnson, Almoner for the Waipawa District, was increased from £25 to £SO per annum. His report showed that during-the. month a total of 248 rations had been issued by'him. During the same period 160 rations were issued in Napier to 40 applicants. A discussion .on. the treatment of cancer patients took place at the Hospital Board meeting, .this afternoon, consequent on some’remarks appearing in the Telegraph. In the article in question it was stated that three patients suffering from cancer were being treated in the Refuge, and this led Mr Williams to ask Dr Sweet as to the-practice prevailing in other colonies. The reply was that in New South Wales cancer patients were always sent to an institution for incurables, and were never treated at -the hospital unless an operation wbuld be beneficial and was necessary.
