(OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Yesterday A well attended meeting of tho committee of tho Agricultural and Pastoral Society was held to-day. Some formal business in connection with the appointment of stewards for the show in October was transacted, but the principal business was to consider two motions, moved by Mr Wellwood and Mr Anderson, both to the effect that the meetings of the committee should in future be held at Hastings instead of Nupier. There was a lot of talk, but tho tone of it was principally against the proposals, which were both rejected by 14 votes to 5 votes. At a committee moeting of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club this afternoon, the protect against the stakes in the Maiden Steeplechase being paid over to Austral was coMsidered at some length. Ultimately it was decided that tho committee’s decision should he given on Monday next. At tho annual general meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Caledonian Society to night there was a good attendance. The balanco-sheet showed the society to be in a flourishing condition. A committee was appointed to devise a scheme for offeiing every second year a scholarship worth £4O a year, to enable the winner of it to undergo a two years’ course at the university. The following officers were elected :—Patron, his Excellency the Governor ; president, Mr Douglas M'Lean ; vice-presidents, Messrs A M‘Hardy, G S V Wenley, N Kettle, J V Brown, J Audorson, and R Smith ; honorary treasurer, Mr J M'Lean ; secretary, Mr E Black ; auditors, Messrs W E Fraser and Fred Fulton. Tho following directors were also appointed :—The Hon J D Ormond, M L C., Messrs G H Swan, F Logan, W Miller, W Nelson, YV Bogie, J W Carlilo, J Begg, S II Gollan, Allan Lockie, II Campbell, C D Kennedy, R Gooch, J M‘Vay, F L Gordon, R H Mackenzie, R Haliburton, D M Couper. (BY TELEGRAPH.) This day At the Court this morning before Mr A. Turnbull S.M , James Costello alias Thompson waa fined £1 and costs for drunkenness. The alternative was three days’ hard labor and defendant elected to go to gaol. Francis Sadgrove also charged with drunkenness, was discharged with a caution.
Minnie Kulling on remand, charged with lunacy was certified to be insane and was committed to the Wellington Asylum.
