NAPIER NEWS.

(OWN correspondent.) Yesterday

I am sorry to have to record the death after a week’s illness of Dr Innes, from pneumonia resulting from neglected influenza. He was a kind man, a capable doctor, and widely respected. He leaves a widow and one child. His life was insured in the Government office for £2OOO.

I may state that influenza is very preva-

lent still, and that there are a great many down with it. Among these is Major Scully, who catao to the district on a visit a short time since, and was taken with the prevailing epidemic. He neglected it and as a result had to bo taken to the hospital suffering from bronchitis, and now lies there in a very critical condition.

Patrick Tyne was fined 5s and costs at the Court this morning for driving a vehicle after dark without lights attached. Michael Barry, for leaving a horse and vehicle unattended, was also fined 5s and costs.

Three Maoris charged with neglecting to send in sheep returns were each fined £1 and costs.

Walter Hill, for a similar offence, was fined a like amount aud ordered to pay costs amounting to £4.
