ONGA ONGA.
(OWN CORRESPONDENT. - ) Most of yonr Oaga Onga readers are aware of the damage that has been done about Onga Onga and Te Mate on several occasions through the Onga Oaga creek overflowing. At the time of the December flood the damage was very consider able. Several settlers who suffered more or less at these times, decided to make an attempt to prevent the overflow of the creek. A breast-work was formed and has proved highly satisfactory, as the heavy fresh of Monday has done no damage whatever. Great thanks are due to Messrs R. Harding and H. H. Bridge, as it is in a great measure due to the liberality of these gentlemen that the breast-work is such a substantial success. I hear on good authority that Mr H. H. Bridge is going to England in a few days. He will be much missed, as he always takes a lively inter st in the advancement of this neighbourhood. I see the annual meeting of the Onga Onga Library takes place on Saturday evening. Tbe Mieses Frlberg had a narrow escape from a serious accident on Sunday afternoon. In attempting to cross the river from Onga Onga to Hampden, tho trap got overturned. Fortunately one of the young ladies managed to get to Tikokioo, and Mr A. Rood hastened to the rescue and soon had all safe.
