The preliminary report of the Government Statistician on the wheat harvest is to the effect that it is, generally speaking, disappointing. The yield is estimated at 3,900,000 bushels, giving an average of 12£ bushels per acre. The crops almost everywhere are reported to be patchy, but the quality generally is good. Prices range from 3s 9d to 4s lid, but tho average obtained by the farmers is 4a 2d, deliverd. It is estimated that the colony will have to import from three and a quarter to four million bushels.
Advices have been received to the effect that the Hong Kong police are pursuing Bell and Davies, who were reported from Honolulu to have sailed for the China seas.
Mr the Australian champion cyclist, has sailed for New Zealand, where he intends to compete at the champion athletic meeting in Christchurch.
