NOTICE.

The Library Ball.

The Ball in aid of the Library funds last night was very poorly attended. Why, it is very hard to say, unless it is the institution is not deemed worthy of support by the public generally. The committee did everything in their power to make the affair an unqualified success, and certainly their arrangements were perfect. The supper table was tastefully laid out by M ,- s A. C. Scrimgoour, who very kindly lent all necessary table gear, and also supplied tea and coffee and a large quantity of ham sandwiches. A large number of ladies also sent pastry, fruit &c., &c. Mrs Cracknell took charge of tho table and was assiduous in her attention to those present ; she was ably assisted by Mrs Harding. The music was supplied by Mr Wildman’s string band, and dancing was kept up till after 2 a.m. Mr A. E. Jull was an efficient M.C., Mr J. Fisher, the secretary of the Library, attended to the “ bar,” and Mr Samuel Johnaoo, the worthy President, was general supervisor of the whole arrangements, looking carefully after the visitors (particularly the ladies.) In fact the whole of the committee were present, and one and all worked hard to carry the affair through successfully, and we are very sorry their efforts were not more appreciated by our townspeople.
