(Per Press Association.) (by telegraph) Wellington, This day. In the Supreme Court in Banco, the Chief Justice disnii ed the appeal in the case Regina v. Hill. The latter had been charged in ihe Resident Magistrate’s Court with the distribution of certain indecent literature. The Justices dismissed the information on the ground of insufficient euidence. Upon this decision the Crown appealed. On a prelim nary objection His Honor ruled that there had been insufficient service, as the application was not made to all the Justices adjudicating. The Rugby Union have decided to send a team to Napier this season, but the date is not yet fixed. Robert Duncan, Engineer of the steamer Richmond, has been appointed Inspector of Machinery at a salary of £3OO. The Scotia arrived in the harbor at noon, having completed the repairs to the Cook’s Strait cable. She sails for Sydney tonight. The Wellington Branch of the Railway Employees Society has unanimously decided in favor of extreme measures being adopted if necessary. One result of the Conference on the Petone Woollen Factory dispute is that 40 ex-operatives will resume work on Tuesday, 28th inst. Of those now in the mill, principally married women whose husbands are working in the mill or the district, most will be discharged, but will be reinstated if trade improves. The Rotorua chiefs have filed a petition in the Supreme Court, praying for an enquiry into the manner in which the Rotorua Lakes have been leased.
