TO STAND THIS SEASON, At the TavUlock Stables, WAIPUKURAU, H. 8., The Thoroughbred Stallion BLACK BOSE. (Bred by Mr Redwood.) BLACK ROSE is by Anteros—Rosalind, whose performances on the New Zealand Turf stamp him as one of the most valuable Entire Horseß now in existence. Black Rose is a brown horse, standing 15$ bands, with immeuse quarters loins, bone and muscle, and he has proved i himself a stayer, having won the Canterbury Derby, beating Fusilier, Liverpool, Ugly Buck, Water King, Carlton, Dime, Pearl, and Lady Evelyn. The following day he ran a good rccond to the redoubtable Welcome Jack in the Canterbury Cup of 2$ miles, which race he led in to the distance post, where through swerving at the crowd, he allowed the son of Miss Flat to secure the Judge's eye a neck ahead of him. Ho subsequently won the Island Bay Cup in a common canter, beating Leonora, Ugly Buck, and four others.

TURQUOISE is a brown horse, with excellent quality and of good bone and substance, suitable for getting highclass Hacks and Steeplechasers as well hr Thoroughbred Flat Racers of the first order. He was bred by Mr Samuel Gardiner, of Bundoora Park, Victoria, and is got by Tubal Cain from Topaz, a descendant of the great Juliet family which has given to Australia more class racehorses than any other strain in the colonies. Martini-Henri, Nordenfeldt, Sardonyx, First Water, Goldsbornugh, Robin .Hood, Robinson Crusoe (sire of Trident and Navigator), and a host of other good ones aro all descended from this family. Turquoise has proved himself a good performer on the Turf, having at all distances, and under heavy weights carried his colours to victory. As a threeyear old he was thought to be almost as good as that champion Welcome Jack. The following are some of his principal performances : Won Stewards’ Handicap, six furlontrs, at the C.J.C. Spring Meeting, 1884, carrying 7st 101 b ; won Taranaki J.C. Handicap, 2 miles, at T.J.C. Autumn Meeting, 1885, carrying Bst 101 b; won Easter Handicap, 1J irsles, and Autumn Handicap, miles, at the A.R.C Autumn Meeting 1885, carrying 9st 31b and 9st 101 b respectively ; won Ladies’ bracelet at A.R.C. Steeplechase Mooting, 1987, carrying 12st ; won Consolation Handicap at H.B.J.C. Spring Meeting, 1887.

Martini Enfield is full brother to Whitworth who has raced so successfully in Victoria. Lyra is full sister in blood to Albany. Albany is by Thormanby out of Griselda by Touchstone. It will, therefore, be seen that Martini Enfield has in him the two most successful struins of blood, viz. : Musket and Albany, the emperors of the turf. For extended pedigree see cards. He has good bone, and has proved himself one of the best sires in the district for improving the breed of good useful weight-carrying hacks and cross country horses.
