The man M‘Carron, who was arrested with his daughter on the charge of muidering the latter’s illegitmaite child under peculiarly atrocious circumstances, has been sentenced to ten years imprisonment for manslaughter, and his daughter to twelve mouths. A m m named Macfarlane has been found dead in a water hole, where he had evidently been thrown after being murdered. There is no clue at present to the perpetratot of the deed. During a discussion on the estimates in the Legislative Assembly the question of shipping butter to England was referred to. Mr Dow, Minister of Agriculture, admitted that his department had been unable to obtain the right to use Pond’s boxes (the New Zealand patent,) and if they imported the boxes ready made a duty would have to be paid. He had surmounted the difficulty by instructing the Government Analyst to ascertain the component parts of the enamel used in Pond’s boxes, and then use the invention in Victorian-made casks. SYDNEY, Yesterday. The Sydney Morning Herald, in an article on New Zealand politics, says : “The redistribution of portfolios is a matter of considerable importance to the Atkinson Ministry, and will tend to strengthen its influence. The re-election of Mr Hislop, and his recall to the Cabinet, have done enough to assert the contention of the Ministry against the action ol the committee of the Legislative Council iu the WarJ-llislop dispute.” During a thunderstorm at Inverell, in the northern territory, a man named Lock and his wife were killed by lightning. PERTH, Yesterday.
A man named Press has been sentenced to death for killing his mate at Hall’s Creek and burning the body.
