HAMPDEN.

(OWN COR It K.S PON DENT.) The annual distribution of prizes of our District School took place in the schoolroom on Friday evening last. There was a good attendance of parents. Mr James Inglis officiated as ehairmun and presented tho prizes, and right w 11 did bo carry out bis duties.

The following were awarded prizes, who passed tho general examination : Standard VI. : George Douglas. Standard V. : Catherine McLeod and Catherine Green. Standard IV. : Eva McLood, Kate Inglis, Henry Buchanan, Charles Vesty. Standurd 111. : Buguley Doar, Harold Doar, George Pemberton, Maggie Vesty, Mary Vosty, Alex. Matbeson, Laura Harker, Anuie Campbell, Lizzy McMillin, Joliu Matheson, Sain Vesty, and Sarah Buchanan. Standard 11., Alfred Pemberton, Lawrence Hallasey, and Annie McLood. Standurd I. : Lily Doar, Emmeltto Doar, Dollina Douglas, John Douglas, Albert Foulds, Emma Peberton, Queenie Scarrott, John Clark, George Ingram, Daisy Vesty, Edith Foulds. The following special prizes wero also presented Captain Russell’s for needlework, Catherine Inglis (sewing machine) ; Laura Harker (lady’s companion). Good atteudauco—lst Mary Vosty, 2nd Charles Vesty. Geography—Alex Matheson. Composition—Lizzie McMillin. Mrs Pemberton’s special prizes of two books were awarded to George Pemberton for writing in Standard 111., and Alfred Pemberton for arithmetic in Standard 11. For needlework—Catherine McLeod and Catherine Green in Standard V. Standard IV.— Evo McLeod. Standurd lll.—Maggie Vesty, Annie Campbell. Staudard ll.—Lizzie Austin, Martha Woods. Standurd 1.-—-Eminelette Doar ; and Maude Ingram preparatory to Standard I. All tho others who failed at the Inspector’s examination were presented with u handsome prize each, as well as the whole of the infants. At the conclusion the chairman presented to Mrs Doar, tho mistress, on behalf of the children, a handsome work-box and inkstand, as a token of esteem for her kindness throughout tho year. Cheers were given for the Hampden School, Miss Doar, aud the Chairman. After which tho children weut through some Xmas carol’s in splendid stylo ; and a hearty vote of thanks to the chair concluded the evening’s enjoyment. A collection was taken at the close, to get,ropes for swings, etc.
