Kaikora School Committee.

The usual monthly meeting took place Inst evening in the Rechnbitc llnll, Kaikora, when Messrs White (chairman), Watts, Pettit, Gray, Crayford and Ingleton (hon. sec.), were present. Tho minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read : From I\lr Coombs, complaining against the head-master beating his child. — It was decided on tho motion of Mr Pettit, seconded by Mr Crayford, “ That Mr Coombs’ letter bo received, and that a reply be sent stating that the committee had no power to deal witli tlio subject complained of.” It was retolved on the motion of Messrs Gray and Crayford, “ That the secretary be requested to write to all parents who have long-standing accounts to tho effect that the committee have decided to recover them through a solicitor, unless paid by the end of the current month.” The chairman stated that tho headmaster had culled on him and suggested

that the picnic should be held on 24th inst., tho prizes to be distributed on the same day. It was resolved on the motion of Mr White, seconded by Mr Pettit, “ That the suggestion be carried out.” It was resolved on the motion of Messrs Watts and Pettit, “That Messrs White and Grey together with the head master, bo a committee to award the prizes.” It was resolved on the motion of Messrs Crayford and Gray, “ That Mr Sporlo be elected to the vacant seat on tho committee.” The cominittoo then adjourned until Friday, 17th inst.
