WOODVILLE.

[from our own correspondent.] January 15. As I told you the concert in aid of the fund for the relief of the sufferers by the busli fires took place on Wednesday evening and attracted a very good audience who were very well pleased with the programme. Several of the singers were new to Woodville, but were none tlie worse received on that accoant while there were the usual applause and encores all through the evening. While some were diverting themselves at the concert the Woodville Boad Board mot in solemn conclcve in the Club Hotel. There was not very much business there, the principal being the placing of accounts in connection with ie*:?sting Bradbury’s claim, which amount altogether to £SO, but as £lO was received from the plaintiff’s solicitor the net cost was just £2O with the £l2 pi id into Court; this makes £75 which is enough for a job which another man tendered for at £24. That was however decidedly cheaper than paying £122 claimed and a long lawyers bill as well. What the plaintiff’s costs were of course lias not appeared but they must be much more as he had all the court fees to pay. ■ It may interest some of your readers to know that the Rev. C. and J. W. Worboys left yesterday morning to attend the Free Methodist District Meeting in Rangiora, also that Mr F. Hill who has preached once of twice in the Methodist Church in Waipawa has been engaged by the Primitive Methodist connection is a tried local preacher, and is to be stationed at Ashburton for the coming twelve months. The promoters of the fire brigade have been working hard, and have collected about £7O, and reports to the obtaining an engine is to be made at the meeting to be held to-morrow night for the purpose of organising the brigade. It is not expected to compete at Napier this year.
