[Reuter’s Telegrams.] [by electric telegraph—copyright.] ITALY AND SOUAKIM. London, May 19. It is stated that negatiatious are now in progress between the Governments of Italy and Great Britain with the view of the occupation of Souakim by the former country, and that a number of Italian troops have received orders to hold themselves in readiness for that service. Paris, May 19. Victor Hugo, the well-known poet, is reported to be in a dying condition.
Melbouane, May 19. The Melbourne Manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand reports on the grain market ns follows :—There is no material change in shipping wheat, if anything the market is weaker, prices being at 3s 9d to 3s lOd ; malting barley, less depressed, 3s Gd to 4s Gd, hue not much doing; New Zealand oats, feen sorts, quieter and weaker, 2s 8d to 2s lid; milling descriptions, steady, 2s lid to 3s 3d, but not in active demand ; New Zealand oats under bond, 2s Id to 2s fid ; rye grass seed, fair demand, 3s 6d to 4s Gd ; cocksfoot barley maintains to-days quotation at 3f d to 4d.
