ECONOMY .
To the Editor of the Waipawa Hail. Sir, —Economy is good when practised in a spirit of fairness, but the display of a would-be economist by one of our County Councillors, is something disgraceful and mean. He would never have thought of it, only for the independent action you had taken throughout the late election. I allude to the motion in respect to advertising. As another paper says (which has also shown its independency—the Woodville Examinei —in its issue of the 12th) in answer to a letter ol Mr Tanner : “ The small settlers are much more numerous here” (meaning Woodville), “than the large landowners. We are glad to say they are, else we should be rewarded as the Hail is for its independence of position by being boycotted.” Only give these large landowners a little more power and see what they will do, since they show themselves capable of such contemptible and autocratic action. There would be no such thing as liberty. The County Council election will very soon be on, and it is to be hoped that those electors who claim to be free and independent, will give their votes in such a manner and to such gentlemen as would think it beneath them to countenance such a contemptible and autocratic action, —I am, &c., Free and Independent.
