TAMUMU.

(from our own correspondent.) November 30. The weather having taken up, shearing is in full swing again at the Tamumu shed, but it is rumored abroad that the shearers employed there are to go up to Mr Johnston’s Oruawharo station to-morrow, to shear there, and afterwards come back and finish the Tamumu shed. I hear that Messrs Nairn Bros.’ shearing will be finished about Wednesday next. Mr Mackay is making good headway with the bridge over the upper crossing of the Mangamahiki, considering the bad weather he has had to put up with. But that is not the only drawback. There is hardly a dray load of timber brought from Kaikora that does not get stuck in the mud at the corner of Mr White’s fence, opposite the woolshed. I think it is high time the County engineer caused something to be done at this spot. While lam writing this, I hear that two drays loaded with wool from the Tamumu station, are “ bogged” in or about the same place. The only way I see out of the difficulty just now would be for the County engineer to see Mr White, and get the fence moved back about a chain at that particular spot. A meeting of our Road Board takes place on December 8, for the purpose of opening tenders for the quarrying and carting of about 3500 yards of metal on to the new formation leading to the Puru Puru gorge. I notice that the various contracts let a few months ago are finished, viz., the bush felling at Titoki—Messrs Brown and Nelson’s run—the contractor for which was Mr Beck, of Norsewood ; also a mile and a half of road formation leading from Messrs Clark Bros.’ to the Puru Puru gorge. The contractor was Mr R. McKenzie, who is well up to his work, and has finished the contract to the satisfaction of the road overseer. The settlers here are hoping ere long to be able to drive a buggy and pair to and from Pourerere and the sea coast, without being bogged, as some of our neighbors are on the roads more adjacent to the County town.
