The international rifle contest between the British and American teams was concluded at Wimbledon to-day, and was won by the former. Alexandria, July 20. The latest reports to hand from Cairo state that the cholera epidemic is spreading in a most alarming manner in that city. No less than 140 deaths have already occurred through the plague. Sydney, July 21. Intelligence has reached here from New Caledonia that the French Government recently granted to Adolphus Opp« nheimer, of Auckland, the right and monopoly for ten years to dig for and export kauri gum from New Caledonia. During Mr Oppenheimer’s stay in Now Caledonia lately a French ship of war was placed at his disposal to explore a part of the colony. He discovered two extensive gum fields yielding excellent hard kauri ; also several rich chrome and cobalt mines, and obtained concessions for working tho same.
