THE CLIVE ELECTION.

(TO the editor of the waipawa mail.) Sib, —In reply to Mr G. Hutchins’ letter which appeared in your last issue, and also to numerous other enquiries, I beg to state that it is my intention to offer myself as a candidate for this district at the forthcoming general election. I shall publish an address and hold meetings throughout the electoral district as soon as the writs are out. Meanwhile, as the principle of the ballot is opposed to personal canvassing, I would respectfully request electors to withhold their promises until after they have heard all the candidates.—l am, <fec.,

W. C. SMITH. Waipukurau, September 16.
