The Tornado Argument Was Settled
At 4,. 15 p.m. yesterday the Independent telephone, rang and the office clerk informed the Editor he was wanted. Yes, wanted to settle an argument as to whether the disastrous tornado which swept over Frankton and Hamilton, occurred a year or twd* years ago. The was quickly supplied that the first anniversary of the worst visitation in the nistory of the Waikato was yesterday, August 25. The tornado, sweeping. from west to east, commenced about 11.45 a.m. It levelled a street of permises in Frankton and many others in the Lake Road area. Many people were injured, but fortunately there were few fatalities. , Two people were fatally injured in the Lake Road district. Passing on the tornado leaped the Waikato River and' did some damage rn Hamilton East. 200 houses were much damaged, 13- bdlng totally destroyed. Cambridge -residents iwfill well recall that much debris and even sheets of corrugated iron, were carried by the tornado as far as Te Miro.
