BAND'S SUCCESSFUL YEAR
One of the most successful years in the long history of the Cambridge Municipal Band was recorded at the annual meeting held in the supper room of the town hall last evening when the president (Mr K. L.' Wilkinson) presided over an attendance of about 60, including a number of lady supporters. In opening the meeting the President remarked that the Band is one of the oldest established institutions in the community. It was disclosed later that Cambridge had possessed a band for over half a century. The review of the past season by the committee chairman, Mr C. Kelly, together with the reports of the Conductor, Mr F. Kear, the Band Sergeant, Mr S. Simpson, the attendance records, and the treasurer's (Mr E. Simpson) statement, adequately supported the fact of the Band's outstanding year. The reports will appear in a later issue. The Finances fcf The balance sheet showed a very satisfactory position. The general account disclosed that the year commenced with a credit of £SB 7s 9d and concluded with a credit of £24 12s 6d; but during the period the Band acquired additional instruments to the value of £330 16s sd. With the exception of £BO from the Post Office account, this expenditure had been met from the general account. The No. 2 (Post Office) account commenced the financial year with a credit of £203 10s 2d and ended the period with a credit of £126 15s. The Band collected £ll9 from its own efforts, including £54 17s from the field day at Leamington on the occasion ot the Te Akarana Girls' Band visit and £l9 0s 6d from a dance. The assets (heavily depreciated) were set down at £625 lis Id and liabilities nil. Election Of Officers Patron: Mr G. F. Sim, M.P.; President, Mr K. L. Wilkinson (mayor), vice-presidents, Messrs A. Bellamy, Ray Cubis, H. N. R. Souter and C. G. Wallace; citizens' representatives, Mrs Ray Cubis and Mr W. Webber; hon. secretary, Mr A. K. Fletcher; hon. treasurer, Mr R. Simpson; auditor, Mr Frank T. Ray. A vote of thanks was accorded the Retiring vice-presidents, Messrs T. ' Worthing and V. G. Boulton. The president offered hearty congratulations to the Band on the general success of the recent South Auckland contest at Cambridge and of the Band's wonderful performance at the fixture. Other speakers supported the president's remarks. Band Meeting. At the close of the annual meeting the customary band meeting was held •with Mr C. Kelly presiding. He mentioned that an old former member of the Band in Mr E. Palmer, had rejoined. Appreciation and thanks were offered the Fire Brigade for the loan of uniforms for the contest. The best attendance cup was won by Cpl. Geo. Boulton with an attendance of 74 out of a possible 76. Other good attenders were R. Simpson (jnr) 70; T. Hargreaves and C. Hargreaves 69; A. Fletcher and B. Webber 68, S. Simpson €7, S. Drury and M. Cubis 64 and R. Cubis 60. The trophy for the most improvea junior player was won by R. Rickard. Drum-Major: J. Baker; Sgt., Ross Cubis; Cpl., Geo. Boulton; L/Cpl., John Bell; assistant librarians, B. Webber and J. White. Band members on general committee: Drummajor and Sgt., ex-officio, Messrs C. Kelly, T. Hargreaves and C. Devonshire.
