Volunteers For Ambulance Work

MORE RECRUITS NEEDED w ; — r « MEETING EXPRESSES CONCERN Following reports presented by Brigade Officers at the annual meeting of the Cambridge St. .John Ambulance Association on Monday night, concern was expressed at the lack of volunteers coming forward to carry on the work. It was stated that the number of active workers, particularly men, had dwindled to such small numbers that it was some times difficult to carry on. According to Mr P. T. Glanville, the Brigade Superintendent, there were times when there were hardly enough men available to service the football fields. The reports of Sister McClellan, of the Ladies’ Nursing Division, Mr J. Conder, Superintendent of the Cadet Division and Miss B. May, Superintendent of the Ladies’ Cadet Division, were more encouraging, but they also indicat|d the need for more members.

The meeting decided to hold a drive for more members, and it was left to the executive committee to make the preliminary arrangements. In his report, the ‘‘chairman, Mr R. S. Entwistle, stated that the services of the motor ambulance had been maintained. The collection of fees had been satisfactory, and the ambulance account had a balance of £398, which would be kept in reserve for the purchase of a new ambulance. Fortunately the ambulance was in first-class order at present and maintenance costs were very low. Mr Entwistle referred to the satisfactory response by the i people of Cambridge to the annual appeal. The association had a satisfactory reserve, some of which would be used for building extensions when circumstances permitted. Thanks were extended by' Mr Entwistle for the invaluable work rendered by the active members of the Order, also to the local medical practitioners, the Press, •and the association officials.

The following officers were elected: Patron Mr G. F. Sim, M.P.; president, Mr K. L. Wilkinson; vice-presidents, Drs. I. L. Oliver, H. C. Tod and L. F. Johnston; Messrs Edgar James, W.
