Bible Lessons for Children of the Cambridge District.

ANSWER THESE AT HOME.

Through the Auckland Sunday School Union, the following home lessons are made available for the children of Cambridge, including the outlying districts. Where there are answers, these should be written out and posted to Sunday School teachers. Each Sunday. School will hold an exhibition of the work received when schools re-open.

•FOR INTERMEDIATES AND JUNIORS. (Ages 9-13) Jesus—the Friend of a dishonest Man. St. Luke tells another story of “Jesus the Friend.” In Jericho there lived a rich little Jew. In spite of his wealth and his beautiful home, the other Jews did not like him, because he had made his money by taking more taxes from his countrymen than was right or fair. When the news spread that Jesus was coming to Jericho great crowds gathered to see Him, and among them was Zaccheus, the despised tax collector. He knew the way Jesus wOuia come, but he also knew that it would be impossible for him tn see over the people’s heads. Near the road was a sycamore tree, and into its branches climbed the determined little Jew. Imagine his surprise when Jesus stopped underneath the tree, and invited Himself to dinner at the home of Zaccheus, and imagine the haste with which the Jew descended and hurried home to receive Jesus “Joyfully.” He probably knew, and so did Jesus, that many people would “talk” about them both, but he was so grateful to Jesus for His friendship that in Luke 19, verse 8 we are told how He promised to put right any wrong he had done. Jesus knew how sincere he was, and told the listening people that it was to help bad people to become good that God had sent Him. That is how we know that He is your Friend and mine, and that when we are ashamed of our bad ways, He helps us to be better. Expression Work— (l) Read the story in Luke 19: 1-10. (2) Draw the road and the sycamore tree. (3) Model a sycamore tree in plasticine. (4) Find a story about Jericho in the Old Testament. FOR THE LITTLE ONES The Captain’s Servant: Through the busy streets of the city of Capernaum hurried a Roman captain. How worried he looked! His servant was very, very sick. Can you guess for Whom he was searching? Yes! Jesus! This soldie" loved God, and had built a church where people could worship him. He knew that Jesus sometimes preached there, and that he cured sick people. At last he found Jesus, who asked, “What is the matter?” “Oh, Sir,” the soldier said, “I am

glad I have found You. My good servant is so sick. I have tried every medicine I know of, but I can’t cure him, poor fellow! Will You help him ?” Jesus answered, “I will come and heal him.” “Don’t come to my house!” said the captain. “I know You have just to t say the word and my servant will be healed.” Even Jesus was surprised that the soldier was so sure that He could cure the servant. He said, “Go home. You will find your servant alive and well.” Home went the captain, happy there to find that his servant had been cured, but he was not surprised. He knew that Jesus would keep His promise. We know it too, don’t we?” Something for you to do:— (1) Print and colour the verse: — “He giveth life to all.” (2) Fill in the missing words in the following:— “The kind . . . asked ... to cure his sick .... He told him to go . . . and he would find his .... servant alive and . . . (3) Draw a picture of a church. Under it print:— “This is God’s House, And He is here today.
