Should Come From Consolidated Fund

UNITED NATIONS APPEAL FOR CHILDREN BOROUGH COUNCIL RESOLUTION Contending that the aid for Britain campaign was of primary importance and that a contribution could betted be made from the Consolidated Fund, the Cambridge Borough Council decided at its meeting on Wednesday night to take no action in connection with the United Nations Appeal for Children. Support for the. appeal was read in a communication from the Prime Minister and the leader of the opposi-

tion and the Mayor, Mr K. L. Wilkinson, added that thd organiser had waited on him recently. The ■ cam- i paign would be for six weeks, with the slogan “One Day’s Pay” from every person. “The money should come from the Consolidated Fund, then everyone would pay their fair share,” said Mr Mervyn Wells. Mr A. J. S. Richardson: The aid for Britain campaign is the big thing at the moment. We want everyone to put heart and soul into that. It is doubtful whether this new appeal will > be supported. Mr P. S. Lewis: The cause is very worthy. It should be a donation from the country. Mr Colin Clark: Great Britain is our first consideration and this latest appeal should be a national matter. Mr C. V. Duignan endorsed the remarks of the other councillors. A resolution was carried that the council had received the appeal endorsed by Mr Fraser and Mr Holland, and considered a grant should be made from the Consolidated Fund, with the agreement of‘both parties, so that everyone from Communists to Tories paid their fair share to this worthy object. Mrs E. E. Taylor voted against the resolution. '•lltlllMIIIIMMiailUllllHiniHIIIIIIMIIIIIClIMtlHIIIIIMIIIIIIMlItt
