GERMAN WASPS

FARMERS DISCUSS MENACE STEPS TO ERADICATE That more urgent steps be taken to eradicate German wasps in the district was the resolution carried at a meeting of the Cambridge SubProvince of Federated Farmers on Friday. Mr Ken Butler stated that the wasps were very bad in the Pukeroro and Hautapu districts, and were becoming a menace to fruit. There was no doubt that they would become worse as the breeding period advanced. It was stated that an officer of the Department of Agriculture in Hamilton had been dealing with the nests, but he had received so many enquiries that now the powder for eradication was sent out for farmers to do tio nwas sent out for farmers to do the work themselves. A Te Miro suggestion was that a bounty be placed on queen wasps. It was decided that the remit be forwarded to the Auckland Province for consideration.
