The Game of Bowls

LICENCED VICTUALLERS' TOURNAMENT WAIHI WINS AGAIN The fourth annual bowling tournament of the Waikato Licenced Victuallers' Association was held at the Central Club's greens on Wednesday last when 30 teams, representative of hotels from Pukekohe to Waihi, took part. The greens were in excellent order and the day proved very enjoyable for all participating. Again this year the Waihi team, from the Stirling Hotel, were the winners with an undefeated record over the five games. The members of the team were Messrs Chiles, Dare, Moffatt, McGonagle. This team annexed the main honours last year. Three teams tied for second place, each with 4 wins and one loss. They were: National Hotel (Cambridge), Golden Cross (Waihi) and Faeroa Hotel. In the play-off of three heads Golden Cross beat National and also beat Paeroa to take the Runner-up cups. The members of the Golden Cross team were Harding, Graham, H. Anderson, H. Shergold and the National's team were W. Webber, W. Meanie, A. Paton and V. Boulton. Prior to commencing play the Association president Mr E. Bain, of the Rangiriri Hotel, 'extended a hearty welcome to ,all and he expressed the association's sincere thanks for the courtesies extended by the Central Cambridge Club. Mr Bain also referred to the good local organising work done by the Central Club's secretary, Mr E. A. Morrice. At the conclusion of the day's play the president of the association presented the trophies and the local club president, Mr Len. Kerry, assured the association that its members would again be offered the facilities for the annual fixture. Members of the Central Ladies' Club provided morning and afternoon teas and they received the hearty thanks of the players. The Central Club will hdld a oneday open tournament tomorrow.
