Stock on Roads at Leamington
ACTION TO BE TAKEN . APPOINTMENT OF RANGES ' '•' A decision to appoint a ranger was - made by the Leamington Town Board t at its meeting on Wednesday evening, following legal advice that the board had authority to prosecute people who allowed cattle to graze on the roajls. The opinion received from the Municipal Association was that any authorised person could impound any • cattle which at any time of the day or night were found wandering at large • or tethered on the road, and the ■
owner of the cat,tle would be liable to a fine not exceeding. £2 for every head. There was nothing in the.. Statute that precluded the operation /. of the Act if no pound was in existence. , Prosecutions could be instituted by a person appointed, by the board, and : corroborative evidence was not necessary. . .',.'-, Membei's of the board spoke of the ~ necessity of taking action to prevent • stock on the road, particularly at night, when they presented a menace to traffic. It was pointed out that J it was illegal for any stock to be large, on the roads f rom " sunset to K sunrise. > It was agreed to invite applications - for the .position .of ranger, and an appointment will be made at a special meeting of the board. Members con-. sidered also investing the board's - foreman, with the power to prpsecuteV. > u Present at the meeting were Messrs -* A. Looker (chairman), J; D. Baton, y M: Boyce, B. Pratt, G. A.
