Successful Trots at Claudelands

BIG TOTALISATOR INCREASE TWO CAMBRIDGE WINNERS A large attendance witnessed some excellent racing at the Waikato Trottings Club’s spring meeting on Saturday. For this popular fixture the totalisator handled £51,011, an increase of £lB. 552 10/- on last year. The opening event was won by Super Lady, trained and driven by C. G. Lee of Cambridge. She was always trotting like a winner and finished two lengths lear of the consistent Noble Triumph, with H. Ward’s Don Parrish finishing on in third place. Sir Rose, All -True, Roseawa and Hill Billy were next to finish.

Palette won the first division of the Te Rapa Handicap easily from an improver in Airswept, and Chief Council. Mrs Norman Banks’ Albert Grattan cleared right away from the field in the second division to win as he liked from Flambeau and Participate.

There were small dividends in the Matangi Handicap, which was run in three divisions. The winners wex-e Sure Rey and Great Queen in the fii'st two divisions and Playboy and Andy’s Pal who dead-heated for first in the third. Promising sorts noticed were Devadus, Indianote, Noble Nellie, Petite Direct, Flash Lady and Cornelius.

Although slowly away, Gold Strand made up ground quickly and after, being nicely placed to the home stretch he came away to win the President’s Handicap by two lengths from Impartial, who was also slow to get going. Rawene Gi’attan was Thii-d ahead of Paper Man, Indian Quest and Professional.

Our Jackie trotted solidy throughout in the Hamilton Handicap and eventually won by 16 lengths from All True, who was driven by W. Mitchell, and the ;back-marker, Farwrack. Don Parrish was a good fourth, with the others, including Super Girl, who got the stitch, tailed off. Marshall Ney stamped himself as a horse of some ,class. when he won the Eureka Handicap in stylish fashion from Jewel Pride and Democrat, the back-marker. Fire Bar was prominent early, but was not too well suited by the .going. Showing better form than earlier in the day, Sandiways won the final event easily from Amber Light and Professional. Napolis feU during the running and interferred with Rawene Grattan and Bi'itish Machine.
