Dairy Payouts in the South

WELLINGTON FIGURES GENERAL HIGH LEVEL \ Daily company payouts in the Waikato will be announced in a few days, and of interest will be some of the figures from the Wellington Province. As the base price for butterfat was raised by lid. for last season, and the advance rate was increased by Id. only, there was generally anticipation towards a Id. rise in the deferred payments, and in most cases that has resulted.

Figures for five leading WellingtonWest Coast butter companies'show a considerable variation, but with a general high-level pay-out. Levin tops the poll with 3.4375 d., which, added to the advance, brings this company's average overall .payout up to 22.4225 d. lb. For long years this has been one of the highest paying companies in the Dominion, turning out a great quality of butter at a low cost, having regard to its considerable proportion of “billy-can” supply. The Awahuri Dairy Company draws upon the rich Kairanga territory which gives it compactness for col-

lection and has customarily been high paying, as it is again this season. The deferred payment of 3.375 d. brings the season’s average to 22.300 d. The Cheltenham Dairy Company, Feilding, believed to have the largest output of any south of Auckland province, has this season given a remarkably high deferred payout of 3.4107 d. That appears a remarkable return having regard to collection costs that must be entailed from this company having to service a scattered dairying area, with herds so largely sandwiched in with sheep. This season’s output was 1592 tons, up 58 tons on a year before. The Rangitikei Company at Bulls makes a deferred payment of 2.875 d. lb., but this really equals 3.125 d. lb. as that company advanced 19Id. as against the usual 18d. lb. by other companies. The once high-paying Shannon company makes a disappointing showing with a deferred payment of only 3.00 d. lb.
